Who Organizes Community Service?
The Office of Student Life coordinates community
service opportunities to cultivate student interest
in the concepts of volunteerism and involvement
both in the Green Bay community and on the UW-Green
Bay campus.
Why Get Involved?
Community service is a valuable learning experience
for UW-Green Bay students. Through community service
students can positively impact their community and
learn new skills. Community service is fun and rewarding.
Individual students
will be able to add the volunteer experiences to their applications for
University Leadership Awards, the Chancellor's
Medallion and include this experience in their resumes
and portfolios.
How to Get Involved?
Students and organizations can get involved in semester-long
projects or one-time opportunities throughout the
year. The Office of Student Life, student organizations,
and other campus and community organizations coordinate
these events and programs. Event and sign-up information
are available on request in the Student Life Office,
UU153.
Considering Getting Involved?
When considering getting involved either on or off-campus,
think about your past experiences, interests and
hobbies, available time, special skills, career goals
and academic major, and the personal skills/experiences
that you would like to further develop.
Seriously consider how much time you can truly commit
to whatever involvement you choose. Remember that
there are both long-term and one-time opportunities
to get involved. Work with the Student Life staff
to make your involvement choices or to create your
own new projects if you don't find what you
are looking for.
Why Should Students Volunteer?
1. To learn something...about their world, about
others, and about themselves!
2. To have fun while doing something meaningful for
a cause that they believe in.
3. To share ideas and energy that is uniquely theirs.
4. To develop new friendships and connections with
people from every walk of life.
5. To take a risk and try a new and different experience
outside of the campus environment.
6. To build their resume/portfolios and integrate
academic learning.
7. To feel involved and be a part of the action as
a world citizen leader.
8. To develop leadership, communication and problem
solving skills which brings self-confidence.
9. To gain an appreciation and respect for their
own lives and those that they serve.
10. To make a contribution and know that they CAN
and DO make a difference!
