Technology Council Minutes
Friday, February 6, 2009
8:30 – 9:30 am, CL 735

Present:  Lisa DeLeeuw, Sharon Dimmer, Scott Hildebrand, Sue Keihn, David Kieper, Kaoime Malloy, Dan McIver, Uwe Pott, Kathy Pletcher (chair), Tim Sewall,
Not present: Kate Burns, Fritz Erickson, Scott Furlong, Zach Voelz
Guest: Paula Ganyard

  1. Meeting called to order by chair at 8:31 am
    Amended the agenda with changing the adjournment time to 9:30 am rather than 4pm
    Sue Keihn asked that on a future agenda we discuss exploring outsourcing of email.  It was suggested that Pete Kretche be invited to give some background information to the Council.

  2. Approval of the Minutes:
    Minutes approved as written.

  3. Technology Plan: Process and Timeline:
    Kathy suggested the following process and timeline for the development of the Technology Plan 2015:
    • Spring semester 2009 – further research and idea gathering
    • Summer 2009 – Kathy will develop a draft of the plan
    • Fall 2009 – Tech Council will review draft and then share it with the campus for feedback through open forums
    • January 2010 – Send to Chancellor’s Cabinet for approval.

    The Council further discussed the process.  Kathy will request time on the agendas of Unit meetings to get more feedback from the faculty.  She will set up a meeting with Paul Wikgren and Jon Simonsen to discuss the needs and issues for the Business and Finance Area, and with the staff of University Advancement, and the Student Affairs staff. 

  4. Web Policy – first reading
    Paula shared with the Council a revised version of the University Web Policy and Procedures.  The main changes were made to bring the document into alignment with the newly updated University Styleguide.  David suggested that we add something in about security and storage.  He will send wording to Paula who will bring back a revised copy to the next meeting.

  5. Other
    Kathy shared with the committee information about items that have been addressed already in response to the student tech survey.  A brief email will be sent to the students.
