Dr. Donna Ritch

Courses Taught: Cell Biology, Comparative Anatomy of Vertebrates, Anatomy and Physiology, and Microscopic Anatomy. I have also taught Human Disease and Society, Human Physiology lab, Ethnic Minorities in Sciences, and Science and the Art of the Renaissance (a travel course)
Research Interests: I am currently working on signalling mechanisms in Didymium iridis, specifically calcium signalling and its role in movement of the plasmodial stage of the organism
Research Opportunities:  I like to take 1 or 2 independent study students per year. I also am available to assist students with internships with health care professionals in the community

Research Interests: Ecology, taxonomy, and conservation of spiders and ground-dwelling arthropods; winter active arthropods; life history strategies; inventory, monitoring, and assessment techniques for terrestrial and wetland arthropods
Research Opportunities: I have in the past sponsored Independent Research Projects.  I am also very willing to sponsor a Cofrin Research Grant Project.

Courses Taught:   Field Botany, Plant Taxonomy, Wetland Ecology
Research Interests:  I have wide interests in the native plants, especially rare species.  In recent years I have also been very involved with invasive species as they impact our native flora.
Research Opportunities:  I usually have a limited number of work opportunities for students interested in botany.  The jobs are in the UWGB herbarium, a museum style collection of plant specimens.

Courses Taught: Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biotechnology - In the past I have also taught Freshman Chemistry and Molecular Biology
Research Interests: The regulation of gene expression in bacteria is the area of my current research.  Two areas of investigation involve the effect of promoter sequence on gene expression and the role of a global gene regulator that we are currently trying to purify.
Research Opportunities:  The purification of the catobolite modulation factor from E. coli, a global gene regulator, is a project where a student could become involved.
