University Union
Patrea (Poppy) Grant
I have been working on the UW-Green Bay campus for 36.5 years. I started as a manager at the UW-Green Bay Shorewood club, than was promoted to being the manager of the new Union called the Commons and the Shorewood Club; ran a bar/grill area in the Rathskeller and took over custodial services in the new Student Union. I was also involved with the selling of food plan- thru coupon books at the time, overseeing the graphics area, managing the first information center in the Union. Most recently, I managed the reservations and event planning for the last 20 years. I am now the assistant director of operations in the University Union.
In my current position I am responsible for making sure the building is open and secured each day according to the needs of the campus, and that all components needed in the building are functioning properly. I get involved quite extensively in overseeing the maintenance in the building, and in the food service areas. In addition to my building duties, I coordinate the four Cultural Cuisine meals each year.
I went to college at UW-Manitowoc for two years, and finished my college career at UW-Green Bay with a bachelor’s degree in nutritional science. I am the expert here on the EMS system that the campus uses for scheduling of rooms. I am also the historian of the building, since I am the longest University Union employee in the history of this campus. I find it rewarding to help the students grow in their experiences and confidence, and give them opportunities to make them more marketable when they leave.
My interests outside of work include going up north to the Minocqua area to enjoy the northern woods and my friends up there, visiting door county, swimming, biking, cross country skiing and spending times with my friends, family and most of all my grandchildren. I love cooking when time allows, and love going out to fun places to eat. I love seeing a beautiful sunset every day possible.
