UW-Green Bay honors veterans with
reception, certificates of appreciation
For the third consecutive year, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay held a special ceremony to honor the men and women of the University who have served their country in the armed forces. Students, faculty, staff and community members attended the Veteran Appreciation Reception on Wednesday (Nov. 8) in the University Union. Chancellor Bruce Shepard, who said the event is becoming a special tradition at UW-Green Bay, presented certificates of appreciation to students who recently have been on active duty in Iraq or Afghanistan and have returned to UW-Green Bay. Major James O'Neil, a U.S. Army veteran and a 1985 graduate of UW-Green Bay, also spoke.

Major James O'Neil, who has served in three major conflicts, most recently in Iraq, said veterans share the values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage. Chancellor Shepard said the Veteran Appreciation Reception is part of an ongoing effort to recognize members of the campus community who have served their country.
