Convocation features chancellor's speech,
awards, new employees
A candid and far-reaching speech by Chancellor
Bruce Shepard, awards for faculty and staff excellence,
and the introduction of new members of the campus
community highlighted the University of Wisconsin-Green
Bay’s annual Fall Convocation on Tuesday (Aug.
28) in the University Union. The Phoenix Rooms of
the Union were filled as the faculty and staff gathered
for the annual campus get-together that kicks off
the academic year. In his speech, Shepard said UW-Green
Bay is making good progress in building “the
next UWGB” but faces many challenges ahead.
“You have already shown your willingness to
take control, to build, to innovate,” the Chancellor
said.
Athletics Director Ken Bothof, left, and new Women’s
Basketball Head Coach Matt Bollant were among those
attending Convocation.
Many of UW-Green Bay’s community friends also came
to the campus for Convocation. Shown here are Bryan
Boettcher, left, a member of the Founders Association
Board of Directors, and Donald Harden, a member of
the Chancellor’s Council of Trustees.
The bow-tie-wearing Prof. Cliff Abbott, secretary
of the faculty and academic staff, got the proceedings
going Tuesday morning.
Enjoying a lighter moment are, from left, Dean of Professional
and Graduate Studies Fritz Erickson, Dean of Liberal
Arts and Sciences Scott Furlong, and Founders Association
President Susan Frost.
Few empty seats were available in the Phoenix Rooms.
Prof. Steve Dutch, chair of the Awards and Recognition
Committee, announced the winners of the Founders
Association Awards for Excellence. Dutch said he
was living proof that scientists own suits.
Chancellor Shepard congratulates Prof. Emeritus Fergus
Hughes, who received the Founders award for excellence
in institutional development.
A highlight of Convocation 2007 was Chancellor
Shepard presenting
a framed certificate to Marjorie Weidner designating
her status as an honorary alumna of UW-Green Bay.
