The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and Nicolet College in Rhinelander have formed a partnership that makes bachelor's degrees more accessible for adult learners in Wisconsin's northern counties.

"This new and wide-ranging partnership with UW-Green Bay will give Northwoods residents the chance to earn a four-year degree without having to move from the Northwoods," Nicolet College President Adrian Lorbetske said.

Registration for a UW-Green Bay biology class offered at Nicolet College is in full swing. There is still plenty of time to register for this course as well as other online courses offered through UW-Green Bay's Adult Degree Program.

The program suits Nicolet College graduates and other technical college graduates perfectly as many credits earned for an associate degree will transfer toward a UW-Green Bay bachelor's degree. However, the program is also appropriate for adults who have other prior college credits earned at any college or university, or those who are starting fresh with no college experience.

The UW-Green Bay Adult Degree Program is a way to earn a bachelor's degree closer to home without having to spend extended periods of time away from family and jobs.

All courses offered by the program are scheduled on Saturdays or online. A few courses meet in Green Bay a handful of times during a semester, with students staying connected through Web-based distance learning between class meetings. Students can even use the computers, library and other resources at Nicolet College.

The biology course taught at Nicolet College is also scheduled for Saturdays. It starts this fall and still has space available.

More courses may be added at Nicolet College as demand dictates.

"With new opportunities like this partnership between Nicolet College and UW-Green Bay, more Northwoods residents will have the chance to earn bachelor's degrees, which leads to higher personal income, greater personal satisfaction and improved economic development for the region," Lorbetske said.

Information session scheduled
A free information session about the partnership and UW-Green Bay's Adult Degree Program is scheduled for 6 p.m., Wednesday, July 16, in Room 202 of the University Transfer Center on the Nicolet College campus, 5364 College Drive, Rhinelander. It is open to anyone interested in this new degree option.
