Weidner Center Presents announces
fresh vision
Katie Green was introduced Tuesday (Dec. 12) as executive director of Weidner Center Presents Inc. In a brief opening statement and in answering questions from the media, she spoke confidently about building an attractive season of mainstage and educational offerings that could include Broadway theatre. Green is a UW-Green Bay alumna.
Fred Schmidt, board president for Weidner Center Presents, Inc., told the news conference his independent, nonprofit board is convinced it can create a "sustainable business model" for bringing more shows to the Weidner.
UW-Green Bay Chancellor Bruce Shepard noted it was exactly one year previous that he made the somber announcement that staffing and programming at the University-run Weidner Center would be cut dramatically. Those moves brought financial stability, he said, and he now welcomes efforts by Green, Schmidt and the nonprofit board to build on the current base and expand programming.
