Open house will explain veterans' benefits

GREEN BAY-Veterans can learn about what benefits and programs are available to them when their military service tours are over at an open house on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus Wednesday, April 23.

The open house will be held from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the 1965 Room of the University Union, 2420 Nicolet Drive.

All veterans, particularly student-veterans, are invited talk with program officials from state, county and military agencies about Veterans Administration Health Care, employment assistance, filing a disability claim, Wisconsin Veterans' Loans, the Montgomery GI Bill, the Wisconsin GI Bill, the Wisconsin Veterans' Education Reimbursement Grant and more.

Experts on hand will include officials from the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs, the Employer Service to the Guard and Reserves, the Department of Workforce Development Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards, ROTC and the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, along with the Brown County Veterans Service officer, a UW-Green Bay Veteran Certifying official and Veterans Administration health care staff.

The open house aims to reach veterans who have "slipped through the cracks" regarding available benefits and services since returning to Wisconsin and civilian life. This outreach effort is a complement to current Reserve Demobilization and National Guard Reintegration activities.
