UW-Green Bay a host site for State Solo and Ensemble Festival

GREEN BAY-About 3,000 high school and middle school students from around the region, along with their parents, friends, and band, orchestra and choral directors, will be on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus Saturday, May 3, for the Wisconsin School Music Association State Solo and Ensemble Festival.

More than 32,000 Wisconsin student musicians take part in the event at various locations statewide. It is one of the largest student events of its kind in the nation.

The festival will take place throughout campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

Students will represent more than 80 schools on the UW-Green Bay campus for the festival.

"We are extremely proud to support educational development of students throughout Wisconsin with programs like WSMA State Solo and Ensemble Festivals. The dedication and effort that the students demonstrate is truly inspiring," said Robert Kase, WSMA executive director.

In order to participate in the WSMA State Solo and Ensemble Festivals, students must first earn a "starred first" rating in Class A (the most difficult music) at a WSMA District Solo and Ensemble Festival, hosted by schools for students in grades 6-12. Students can select from a variety of instrumental and vocal solo and ensemble categories for their performances. More than 225 district festivals were held in Wisconsin during the past six months, involving more participants than any other student activity in the state.

Learn more about WSMA State Music Festivals and other programs by visiting WSMA State Solo and Ensemble Festival information will be posted as available. Schedules and results will be searchable by school, student and event number.
