Beatles, Cash and Coltrane featured in UW-Green Bay
spring jazz concert

GREEN BAY-"My mama done tol' me" that the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay annual spring jazz concert is at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 7.

UW-Green Bay's two jazz bands and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform a selection of songs that cover a span of eras on the University Theater stage inside Theater Hall, 2420 Nicolet Drive.

Selections by the jazz bands include the Johnny Mercer rendition of "Blues in the Night (My Mama Done Tol' Me)," John Coltrane's "Naima," Bob Berg's "Silverado" and the Johnny Cash hit "Ring of Fire."

The Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform several jazz-infused classic rock hits including "Monday, Monday" from the Mamas & Papas, "Because" by The Beatles and "Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard" from Simon and Garfunkel with a Brazilian-New Orleans jazz twist.

The concert features plenty of student instrumental and vocal soloists. UW-Green Bay junior Vicki Karpeck, of Green Bay, arranged "Because" for the vocal ensemble, and sophomore Ashley Sprangers, Menasha, arranged and will perform a vocal solo in the song "Momma Who Bore Me."

Prof. John Salerno directs the Jazz I band while Prof. Adam Gaines directs Jazz II. Prof. Chris Salerno is the Vocal Jazz Ensemble director.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students or seniors. Tickets are available by calling (920) 465-2217, toll-free at (800) 328-8587 or online by visiting
