For Immediate Release:
UW-Green Bay chancellor search committee namedMADISON, Wis. - University of Wisconsin System President Kevin P. Reilly approved a 21-member search and screen committee to help identify the next chancellor for UW-Green Bay.
After serving at his post since 2001, Chancellor Bruce Shepard announced last month that he will step down at the end of June to become the next president of Western Washington University.
"UW-Green Bay has achieved considerable momentum under Chancellor Shepard's leadership, including a plan to increase enrollment in the near future with an eye to the state's workforce needs and economic priorities," Reilly said. "The next leader must be steadfast in the campus commitment to ambitious pre-college outreach and strong community partnerships."
Reilly appointed 11 faculty members, two academic staff members, one classified staff member, and two student representatives to the committee. They are joined by one UW System administrator, one campus assistant chancellor, and three community representatives.
The committee will be chaired by Denise Scheberle, professor and chair of the Public and Environmental Affairs academic unit. She has served on the UW-Green Bay faculty since 1992 and received the UW Regents Teaching Excellence Award in 2004.
The UW System has concluded three simultaneous chancellor searches, recently naming candidates for the top positions at UW-Madison, UW-Parkside and UW-Whitewater. UW-River Falls is also conducting a search for a new chancellor.
Members of the UW-Green Bay Chancellor Search and Screen Committee are as follows:
Following an intensive search and screening process, the committee is expected to recommend five candidates as finalists for consideration by Reilly and a special Board of Regents committee chaired by Regent Judy Crain of Green Bay. Other Regents on the committee include Mary Quinnette Cuene, Michael Falbo, Eileen Connolly-Keesler and Betty Womack.
Of the search committee members, Pfundtner and Prof. Arendt are UW-Green Bay graduates and Riopelle received a teaching certificate from UW-Green Bay. Regents Quinnette Cuene and Connolly-Keesler, on the special Regents committee, are also UW-Green Bay alumni, and Falbo received a UW-Green Bay teaching certificate.
The campus search committee will convene for the first time at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2008, in Fort Howard Hall of the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts on the UW-Green Bay campus. At that meeting Crain and Reilly will officially charge the committee with its mission and roles, review procedures and launch the search process. The meeting is open to the public.
(NOTE: UW System announced a 20-member search committee Wednesday afternoon. Celestine Jeffreys was added to the committee subsequent to that news release.)
