O'Kimosh wins Adult Degree Scholarship at UW-Green BayGREEN BAY-Renee O'Kimosh, Neopit, has received the 2008 spring semester Patricia L. Hoppe Scholarship designated for students in the Adult Degree Program at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. The scholarship is applied to the recipient's tuition.
O'Kimosh entered the UW-Green Bay Adult Degree Program in fall 2007. The program leads to a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. In addition to pursuing the major, O'Kimosh is working toward minors in First Nations Studies and Human Development. She previously earned an Associate Degree from the College of the Menominee Nation, and presently works as an outreach-based training specialist for the college.
The Patricia L. Hoppe Scholarship was created by family and friends of the namesake, a student in the Adult Degree Program who died before she could complete her degree. Hoppe had expressed a desire to help other nontraditional students achieve their educational goals.
The UW-Green Bay Adult Degree Program serves working adults who find it difficult or impossible to work toward a bachelor's degree within traditional college schedules. A combination of strategies including weekend classes, online courses, and working closely with an adviser assists them in earning degrees on nontraditional schedules.
