Brahms is on the program for UW-Green Bay March 8 choral concertGREEN BAY-The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Concert Choir and the Chorale will each perform a work by Johannes Brahms at their concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8 in Fort Howard Hall of the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts on the campus at 2420 Nicolet Dr. Both groups are conducted by faculty member Randall Meder.
Three guest artists will join the 33-member Concert Choir in its performance of Brahms' "Vier Gesänge," Op. 17. They are Tammy Naze, Algoma, on harp, and Karen Oliver and Lindsay Hanson, both students at the Lawrence Conservatory, on horns. Oliver also will join Concert Choir accompanist Janet Osterberg in the Concert Choir's performance of "Heart We Will Forget Him," by James Mulholland. The Concert Choir's program includes Regina Coeli, from "Litanie della Madonna" by Michael Haydn and "Come, Sleep" by Robert Starer.
The Chorale will perform Brahms' quartet, "An die Heimat," accompanied by faculty pianist David Severtson. The 39-member group will sing several pieces for unaccompanied choir, including two 16th century English madrigals and a Lenten motet by 20th century French composer Francis Poulenc. Bass Christian Ott, Sheboygan, will be featured in an arrangement of the spiritual, "Ev'ry Time I Feel the Spirit."
