Held at the Stone Harbor Resort on the water in Sturgeon Bay, the program is designed with professionals in such fields as customer service representatives, call center employees, hospitality workers, bankers, teachers and health care workers in mind. Along with instruction in language and grammar, courses tailored to health care, education, business, law and leisure/travel will be offered.

Prof. Cristina Ortiz, coordinator of the UW-Green Bay Spanish program, heads the faculty. Other faculty members are Rosa Nelson, English Language Learner coordinator for the Gibraltar School District; Pilar Melero and Alicia de Gregorio, both members of the Spanish faculty at UW-Whitewater; Amélia Canilho, who teaches at Sevastopol High School and for UW-Green Bay Outreach and Extension; and Karla Weibel, an English Language Learner language arts teacher for Green Bay Public Schools.

Students will participate in language classes by skill level. Some English will be spoken in beginner classes. Intermediate and advanced class instruction will be entirely in Spanish. Each class day will end with a session on culture and current affairs in the Spanish-speaking world. In late afternoon and evening, participants can choose to join conversation tables hosted by native Spanish speakers, browse in a Spanish-language reading area stocked with books and magazines, and watch Spanish-language films. Optional evening activities will be available.

Fees for the program are $465 for noncredit instruction; $595 for two undergraduate credits in Spanish; or $784.60 for two graduate credits in education. The fees for all three include breakfast, lunch and breaks.

Lodging reservations must be made directly with Stone Harbor Resort. The room rate for the program is $109 single or double per night plus taxes. Reservations must be made before July 10 to qualify for the discount rate.
