Club members say the event is intended to be an introduction to Arabic culture and to a language that is spoken by more than 300 million people. Arabic is the national language of more than 20 countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
Arabic Day participants can have their names written in Arabic script, learn about the custom and get their hands decorated in henna, taste traditional foods, and have their pictures taken in a traditional Bedouin setting. Multi-media presentations will show Arabic cultures through dancing, singing and art.
Tickets are $6 for students, $8 for UW-Green Bay faculty and staff, and $10 for community members. Tickets are available through the University Ticketing Service at (920) 465-2217.
UW-Green Bay offers two semesters of instruction in the Arabic language taught by a native Arabic speaker. Students in the classes have formed the Arabic Club to promote Arabic awareness.
