Fill'er
up with biodiesel. . . soon
UW-Green Bay Power Plant staffers Mark Wenzel and
Dennis Bailey and Prof. Patricia Terry admire the
biodiesel fuel made from waste grease from Sodexho
Dining Service on campus. The fuel was
produced by the University’s new biodiesel
reactor temporarily located in the Power Plant.
A trial run fueled one of the University’s
diesel vehicles, and Weidner Center General Manager
Brock Neverman volunteered to test the product
in his car.
The biodiesel project idea
originated with students in last year’s Environmental
Science and Policy Graduate Program capstone course.
The 60-gallon capacity reactor was purchased with
student segregated fee funds that students elected
to dedicate to campus renewable energy projects,
along with matching funds from the chancellor.
Campus Sustainability Committee Coordinator Prof.
Dean Rodeheaver says biodiesel production will
begin in earnest in spring semester.

Looking
good
Perennially youthful Jerry Olson stopped in at
the library’s eighth floor earlier this year
for an overview of University Union remodeling
and expansion. By spring 2008, the $6.2 million
project will provide more activity space and varied
new dining options, and create new homes for student
services, the Phoenix Bookstore and campus credit
union. Dean of students from 1975 through 1996,
Olson was in charge during construction of the
first University Commons in 1977 and its renovation
in 1985 and 1993. You can follow current progress
at www.uwgb.edu/webcam/union/index.htm.
No
more tuition bills! (Paper ones, anyway)
New
for spring semester, UW-Green Bay is moving to
a paperless “e-billing” system. Beginning
in January, students will be notified via campus
e-mail if they have a balance due and will be directed
to the finances section of the Student Information
System (SIS) on the web. Students will be able
to grant “guest access” to their financial
account to parents or others they might think helpful.
“The move was made for increased accuracy
and efficiency, and it’s environmentally
friendly,” says UW-Green Bay Bursar Dick
Anderson.
