Faith motivates Gustafson's global travels, service
to others
She
has traveled the globe including Africa and Thailand.
Brittney Gustafson believes the best way to make
an impact on a community (or person, for that matter)
is in person. Since UW-Green Bay graduation in
2003, the Humanistic Studies grad has been practicing
what she preaches.
Gustafson worked as a teacher
in Thailand and followed that up with three months
in an orphanage with children who are HIV positive.
Then it was on to Mozambique, teaching about HIV/AIDS
in rural villages. When she saw the need, she traveled
by bus on a six-week trek to Uganda, stopping in
a remote village to join its grassroots HIV/AIDS
ministry. Only a second bout with malaria sent
her home to Wisconsin to recuperate.
Fully recovered, she now works
for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship’s national
headquarters in Madison. There she helps prepare
others to travel overseas to minister on college
campuses.
Gustafson says, in her case,
motivation comes from a desire to share God’s
love: “I strive to be His hands and feet,
to be a tangible representation of His love to
those who are suffering in this world… whether
in my community, or abroad.”
