Hammersmith accepts top job at Metro State

Sue K. Hammersmith, who as provost and vice chancellor is UW-Green Bay’s chief operating officer and top academic officer reporting to the chancellor, has accepted the position of president of Metropolitan State University.

The university has campuses in St. Paul and Minneapolis and serves more than 9,000 students in credit courses annually. Hammersmith will assume her new duties July 1.

“Dr. Hammersmith has provided us with outstanding service,” Shepard said. “At such times, I think it is important not to think about what we are losing but, rather, to celebrate what we have permanently gained under Sue’s leadership.”

Shepard said her long list of achievements includes leadership in numerous diversity initiatives, establishment of effective strategic planning and budgeting processes, and support for advancing Northeastern Wisconsin’s Growth Agenda for UW-Green Bay.
