August 4, 2003 Send an online hello through UWGB's newest Web page By Felicia James Thanks to a new page on the university's Web site, web surfers can send
Phoenix e-cards, scenic online postcards of campus sites, athletic events
and historical photos to whomever they like.
All they have to do is select a background, type a message with to and
from e-mail addresses and send.
The UW-Green Bay e-card is the two-month old-brainchild of Paula Ganyard,
university Web master.
After seeing the idea somewhere else, she brought it to the attention
of Shane Kohl, the director of donor and alumni relations.
"She did the background work to make it happen," said Kohl, who added
that the site is designed to do more than encourage a little dose of school
spirit.
He hopes that people "maybe will go a little further" to other links
on the UW-Green Bay Web site. Perhaps it will attract prospective students
or encourage others to make a contribution to the university.
They may even "want to volunteer for the alumni association," Kohl said.
Even if it doesn't do any of those things, it simply is a fun site.
Sending an electronic greeting always smells of roses.
"It's the same as you would buy in a shop but you can send it online
and save a stamp," Kohl said.
