Millions of visitors to National Geographic's Web site make it the magazine's most popular online feature.

Jenny Faubert, a 25-year-old senior and urban and regional studies major at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, will be in charge of selecting the best photos for the Web site this summer as an intern in the photography section of the magazine in Washington, D.C. She will also create a photo gallery of her own.

Faubert is the first UWGB student to be selected for the internship which she applied for after seeing an application posted near her academic advisor's office.

She was required to submit a resume, several letters of recommendation and write an essay.

"I was surprised when I found out that they chosen me for it," she said. "I think it will be a good experience for me. I'm very excited about living in Washington."

Bill Laatsch, professor of urban and regional studies at UWGB, was among those who recommended Faubert for the job.

"It's a very prestigious internship and a wonderful opportunity for her to be exposed to what the geographers are doing there," Laatsch said. "Just having the exposure to Washington will give her a real sense of what the city is like. It will help her begin to focus on what she may or may not want to do as a career by exposing her to a whole new variety of experiences."

The internship is another opportunity for Faubert to pursue her goal of becoming a writer or photographer for a travel magazine. She has studied abroad in several countries including Ecuador and Italy. While in Ecuador, Faubert took photos of the country's landscape and architecture.

"When I got my pictures back, I realized they were really good," she said. "I enjoy traveling and I want to let other people experience what I've experienced. I like finding out about what other cultures and other societies are like."
