Message from President Reilly on
April 2005 Board of Regents Meeting

Colleagues:

Inspiring stories filled the agenda of the Board of Regents' April meeting in Madison on Thursday and Friday of last week. Many of our UW students took part in Posters in the Rotunda at the State Capitol, and the Board honored academic staff for their dedication to the university. The Board also approved two required reports and several capital projects for UW campuses.

The following news summaries provide more detail on the April 7-8 meeting.

Day One: http://www.wisconsin.edu/news/2005/r050407.htm

• Students shine at Posters in the Rotunda
• Physical Planning and Funding Committee
• Business and Finance Committee
• Education Committee

Day Two: http://www.wisconsin.edu/news/2005/r050408b.htm

• Academic Staff honored for contributions to UW System
• Board celebrates Pointer basketball success; hears budget updates
• Board honors former Regent President Gottschalk for service
• Regents declare support for statewide UW Spirit Week; approve action items

I hope you'll have an opportunity to review these summaries, as well as our related sites on Posters in the Rotunda and UW Spirit Week.

Please note that audiostreaming of Friday's full Board session is archived, courtesy of UW-Extension, at http://www.uwex.edu/ics/stream/regents/meetings/. Again, please let me know if you have any questions, reactions, or suggestions.

It's UW Spirit Week, and it's a time when the whole state will be taking notice of the many contributions of our faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, and friends of the university. I will be joining the Governor, alumni and mascots at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, at the State Capitol to receive a proclamation from the Governor celebrating UW Spirit Week, and many of our campuses will be hosting special events on Spirit Day — Friday, April 15 — when all UW alumni and friends will be wearing their UW colors.

Thank you for all your efforts this month — I certainly take pride in all that you do!

Regards,

Kevin P. Reilly, President
