University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Chancellor Bruce Shepard on Thursday presented his agenda for campus growth to a committee of the UW System Board of Regents during an on-campus meeting.

The growth agenda, which outlines plans for growing UWGB's student population from 5,400 to 7,500 during the next three budget biennia, also addresses the university's larger place in the community and the region, Shepard said.

"This is not an agenda for UWGB," Shepard told regents and system officials. "It is UWGB's best effort to respond to the region's agenda."

That includes partnering with K-12 education, the technical college system and businesses, Shepard said, among other efforts.

Presenting to the Board of Regents' Business, Finance and Audit Committee in UWGB's University Union, Shepard outlined several goals of what he termed "Northeastern Wisconsin's Growth Agenda":

• Increasing headcount to 7,500 during the next three biennia.
• Increasing state funding for UWGB by $8.2 million during the same time period.
• Building one additional classroom/office building on campus.

In addition to numerical growth, Shepard said, it's important to encourage and increase diversity at UWGB. Initiatives like UWGB's Phuture Phoenix program, which seeks to instill the idea of higher education in students from low-income schools at an early age, help facilitate access for diverse populations, he said.

The Board of Regents' April meeting concludes today at UWGB. The body will not vote on the growth agenda during the meeting but rather will consider it during the next budget cycle.
