June 14, 2007 Editorial: Bruce Shepard sounds definite on staying
Bruce Shepard seemed interested in leaving his post as chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay earlier this year.
He was headed for interviews for the position of president of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich., when he withdrew his name.
Shepard, 60, said at the time in early April that he had unfinished business at UWGB.
Saturday evening at the Weidner Center, he made reference to what he sees in his future. He spoke as part of a memorial ceremony for Edward W. Weidner, founding chancellor of UWGB.
Shepard spoke as if Weidner, who died June 6 at age 85, was present.
He envisioned commencement ceremonies and, figuratively, the two of them handing out diplomas to UWGB graduates.
Shepard said he would feel "your warm touch gently joining my outstretched hand."
That sounds like a person who wants to stay, definitely.
