UW System is responsible for setting search committee
The UW System Board of Regents meets this Friday in Madison. It is expected that mention will be made of the pending vacancy at UW-Green Bay, and possible that authorization will be granted to begin the search process for a new chancellor. The System's process for selecting a new chancellor typically follows a prescribed format, although variations are possible. The search process at UW-La Crosse offers the most recent example. There, the campus is seeking a successor to longtime Chancellor Judith Kuipers, who announced her resignation last year. In October, President Katharine Lyall announced the appointment of a 19-member search committee, with representation from the faculty, academic staff, student body and community. The La Crosse committee was charged to conduct its work during the fall and winter, and to recommend at least five candidates to the president this month. Lyall and a special committee of Regents will then conduct final interviews and make a recommendation to the full board. It is anticipated an appointment of the new La Crosse chancellor will be announced at the March or April meeting of the full Board.
