UW-Green Bay would get $500,000 in year two

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will get an additional $500,000 in state support toward improving the student learning experience in fiscal year 2002-03 in the $47 billion state budget approved last night by both houses of the State Legislature. A final budget is expected in about three weeks with Gov. McCallum's line-item vetoes, if any, and signature. The current bill, as written, would bring the $500,000 base-budget increase to UW-Green Bay in the second-year of the biennium, which began July 1. The new money for UW-Green Bay was part of a Systemwide allotment for business and workforce development. The budget allots $17.9 million to the11 comprehensives, UW Colleges and UW-Extension over the biennium, primarily to support economic-stimulus initiatives and programs in high-tech and high-demand fields. The UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee initiatives also received funding.
