In the rush to get out the details on Friday's UW-Green Bay vs. Texas tussle in the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament, some were made right here, with yesterday's LOG ONLine passing along information that was later corrected. In fact, Friday's game in Austin will begin at 7:36 Central time. That's 7:36 p.m., our time. Also, the game will be broadcast locally not by WGEE, but by WNFL-AM 1440. *** * * * * Phoenix women plan low-key departure The Athletics department sends word that the Phoenix women will be leaving early tomorrow for their NCAA tournament appearance. A tight turnaround time and an early-morning departure Wednesday from Green Bay's Austin Straubel Airport precluded any campus sendoff for the traveling party, which will include not only players, coaches and team officials but also the UW-Green Bay pep band and cheerleaders. Friends of the program celebrated Sunday afternoon at Mackinaw's Grill & Spirits in Green Bay when the pairings were announced. * * * * * Swim team also celebrates Phoenix Phever isn't limited to basketball, these days. The UW-Green Bay swim program is also riding high following a first-ever conference title for the men and a strong second-place showing for the women. The list of honors from the recent Horizon League meet in Chicago included not only team and individual winners, but coach-of-the year and swimmer-of-the-year awards for the Phoenix.
