'Apply early' is the word on UW-Green Bay admissions

Maybe you saw it in the weekend newspaper, or heard it on radio or TV this morning, but the news is getting out: UW-Green Bay expects to close its application/admissions process early (make that very early) for fall 2003. Applications are running 37 percent ahead of last year. The full story is at http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/archive/2002oct.htm#cutoff.

Campus has role in Mem Fox visit

There'll be plenty of publicity for literacy advocate and author Mem Fox and her visit to Green Bay later this week, and the Institute for Learning Partnership is a partner. Media coverage and public service announcements on WBAY-TV 2 will launch a local campaign to stress the value of parents reading aloud to their children. The Institute is working closely with local school districts, CESAs, bookstores and libraries to promote the appearance by Fox, a best-selling author of children's books including Possum Magic and Time for Bed.

Candidate forums are Tuesday and Thursday

It's either convention or technicality in "issue ads," but it seems all urge you to call Candidate Doe and demand that he or she stop, start or keep doing something, immediately. Why not save on your phone bill and do it in person, or perhaps just listen to what they have to say? You have an opportunity with the final two candidate forums:

Tuesday noon, Oct. 29, Phoenix Room A
88th State Assembly District: Judy Krawczyk, Bryan Milz, Dan Senglaub

Thursday noon, Oct. 31, Phoenix Room A
1st State Senate District: Alan Lasee, Susan Hilsabeck

UW-Green Bay Performing Arts gets grant renewal

Worth noting here is the fact that UW-Green Bay Performing Arts has again been awarded Wisconsin Arts Board Arts Challenge Initiative grant money this year to help underwrite programming. You'll see this noted in printed programs and publicity for music discipline performances, theatre discipline performances, and Jazz Fest.

Golden House is designated charity for 'Monologues'

Last Monday's LOG ONLine noted casting and performance information for Meyer Theatre performances of "The Vagina Monologues," Eve Ensler's award-winning play. The creators dedicate a portion of the proceeds toward the V-Day Foundation to halt violence against women and girls. The local donation for the Green Bay engagement is directed to the Golden House shelter.

New shoe tree

For benefit of off-campus readers who may have missed this one: a new shoe tree has been designated on campus. It's located near the Ecumenical Center. The Green Bay Press-Gazette reported on this development recently, at http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/news/archive/local_6713813.shtml.
