Vol. 34, No. 3 / September 9, 2002

The LOG Online e-mail news digest is distributed each week to faculty and staff of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Links are included to more detailed stories at the Marketing and University Communication Web site and to an archive of past issues.

Array of Inauguration events is impressive... and on the Web!

Start planning your week (not this one, but the one starting Monday the 16th) around a very impressive series of special events marking Inauguration and "Creating Our Future Together." Highlights include student events, open houses, lectures and the unveiling of UW-Green Bay's cast of the famous "Sifting and Winnowing" plaque celebrating academic freedom. The week also features, of course, the installation ceremony and reception at the Weidner Center on Friday, Sept. 20. The full schedule is on the Web at http://www.uwgb.edu/chancellor/creating/calendar.htm.

Sorry, we're full up

This week's news is so big that a single e-newsletter couldn't hold it. Look for more details on Inauguration (along with the additional, usual assortment of notes, announcements and miscellaneous news from across campus) in a special mid-week edition of the LOG ONLine, on Wednesday morning.

Wisconsin Space Grant program rejoices at more NASA support

The Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium headquartered at UW-Green Bay jumped to a higher level of funding in the latest round of allocations from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The Consortium's new grant for fiscal 2002 is $475,000, compared to just over $256,000 for the previous year. That means more money to fund the programs they already support, and the ability to pursue new initiatives and serve more students, says Aileen Yingst, director. For an update on Space Grant and more on the good news, see http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/archive/2002sep.htm#space.

Zorn, an assistant professor of NAS, received a $4,980 research seed grant for a project entitled, "Photocatalytic Oxidation of Gas-Phase Compounds in Confined Areas: Investigation of Multiple Component Systems." Space Grant monies are awarded competitively to individuals in the 24 organizations that are Consortium members.

Show originates at UW-Green Bay, then travels

UW-Green Bay is the originator of The Midwest Photography Invitational XII. • Gogebic Community College, Ironwood, Mich., Jan. 1-Feb. 1, 2003
• Center for the Arts and Nohr Gallery, UW-Platteville, Feb. 15-March 15, 2003
• UW-Fox Valley, Menasha, April 1-May 1, 2003
• Margaret Mear Gallery, St. Mary's University of Minnesota, Oct. 16-Nov. 14, 2003
