Gov. Doyle calls for "heightened alert"

After a briefing between Wisconsin Emergency Management officials and Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, Gov. Jim Doyle is encouraging Wisconsin residents to be "aware and cautious" of their surroundings and report any suspicious activities to local law enforcement officials. The U.S. Department of Justice on Friday (Feb. 7) raised the nation's terror assessment level to "orange," or high risk of terrorist attack. Level "orange" means that while there is not necessarily a specific, credible threat, it is believed there is a general, high risk of terror attack. This is only the second time in the last year the threat level has been raised to "orange."
