'Business After Hours' is Thursday at PSC

Members of the campus community are invited to drop by Thursday evening (Jan. 9) at the Phoenix Sports Center if they'd like to mingle and help meet and greet members of the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. UW-Green Bay is hosting the Chamber's monthly "Business After Hours" reception from 5 to 8 p.m. About 150 or more visitors are expected for what is billed as "Member Appreciation Family Night" and a chance to meet Phoenix coaches and players. It is the Chamber's event; Shane Kohl in Advancement is a source of information if you have questions, at ext. 2586.

Guest artists are Coffin, Mu'Tet for Jan. 18 Jazz Fest

One of the highlights of UW-Green Bay's annual performing arts calendar, and one of the University's great traditions, rolls around Saturday, Jan. 18 with the 33rd annual Jazz Fest. Saxophonist/composer Jeff Coffin and his group, Mu'Tet, are guest artists. They'll join in the 7:30 p.m. Weidner Center concert with UW-Green Bay student jazz groups and two high school groups judged outstanding as part of the daylong festival. Top 25? That's nothing: Phoenix women make AP Top 20

Fellow old-timers will remember that the basketball Top 25 was more exclusive in our day. Back then, it was a Top 20. Well, even by yesteryear's standards, the Phoenix women's team is among the elite. This week's rankings place UW-Green Bay with the powerhouse programs of college basketball at No. 19 in both the Associated Press poll and the ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll. If you go to the ESPN women's basketball page you'll also note (as of Wednesday) Coach Kevin Borseth featured in the closing "chatter box" at http://sports.espn.go.com/ncw/index.

Tough test tonight vs. MU

The No. 19 ranked Phoenix women's basketball team has one of its toughest tests of the season tonight (Wednesday, Jan. 8) when it plays Marquette at U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee. MU is 8-3, Green Bay is 11-2. Game time is 7 p.m. on WNFL, 1440 AM.

Time change for Saturday's road game

The women's basketball game this Saturday (Jan. 11) at Loyola University in Chicago has been changed to a 1 p.m. tipoff. The game will be carried both on the Internet and locally on WNFL-AM 1440. The Internet site is http://www.uwgb.edu/athletics/fans/index.html.

Board of Regents will see turnover

News this week from Madison with the inauguration of Gov. Jim Doyle includes a shakeup on the UW System Board of Regents. Gone will be James Klauser, Phyllis Krutsch, Lolita Schneiders and Gerard Randall, GOP appointees who were never officially confirmed. Doyle announced he will nominate four new Regents.
