Students show 'A' work to public at April 14 symposiumUW-Green Bay students display outstanding scholarly and creative work Wednesday (April 14) at the third annual Academic Excellence Symposium. Nearly 100 students will exhibit 46 projects from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Union's Phoenix Rooms. The symposium features poster displays and computer presentations and creative work. Who says there's no free lunch? Campus picnic is May 5A 'mark your calendar' event &3151; the campus picnic is from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 5. Fair weather location is the plaza outside the Nicolet Room. The inclement weather location is the Phoenix Sports Center unless an unexpected storm brews on a fair weather day. Retiring campus colleagues will be honored. The day coincides with State Employee Recognition Day. Watch for future Log Online announcements and a followup invitation.

Coming up Asian/Pacific Islander Heritage WeekPlan to join the American Intercultural Center in celebrating Asian/Pacific Islander Heritage Week, April 26-30. Weeklong activities at the AIC will feature the traditions of many Asian cultures starting with Bee Xiong's presentation on Traditional Hmong Instruments, from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, April 26. Heirloom sale is historyWith chief gardener Prof. Jeff Nekola on leave, there will be no Heirloom Vegetable Sale this year. Figures from last year's sale totaled 17,000 plants sold to more than 2,000 customers, generating more than $15,000 for student research opportunities. Fans may want to save space in next year's garden, however. A postcard sent to past buyers said to look for the sale again next spring.
Miss Green Bay, Texas Roadhouse partner to promote Phuture PhoenixUW-Green Bay student Melissa Staley, Miss Green Bay Area 2004, is teaming with Texas Roadhouse to promote and raise money for the Phuture Phoenix program. Staley will appear at the restaurant (2375 S. Oneida St.,) from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday (April 14). For a contribution of $1 or more, children will receive a card they can color and have displayed at the restaurant. Prizes including a free dinner and UW-Green Bay stuffed animals will be awarded for the best card. Proceeds from the ongoing promotion benefit the Phuture Phoenix program. Love to laugh? Don't miss students' 'Noises Off'The UW-Green Bay Student Theater production of "Noises Off," the acclaimed farce by British playwright Michael Frayn, is Friday and Saturday, April 23 and 24 and Thursday through Saturday, April 29-30 and May 1 in the University Theater. All shows are at 7:30 p.m. Director Laura Riddle says it's the funniest play she's ever seen in a theatre. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door for adults, and $10 in advance and $12 at the door for seniors and those under 17.
Credit where credit is due"Noises Off" features an all-star student cast including Dan Van Dellen and Sunam Ellis. Along with their campus theatre credits, you may recognize them from their WACY-TV 32 "411 Update" a daily public service calendar announcing what's happening during the coming week on the local music and entertainment scene.

Pet care workshop is SaturdayA workshop on Veterinary Care of Wildlife and Unusual Pets is rescheduled for Saturday (April 17) from 9 a.m. to noon at the Cofrin Center for Biodiversity. Dr. Chris Katz, a vet of more than 20 years, UWGB adjunct instructor and owner of Two Rivers Veterinary Clinic, will discuss care of diverse animals. Student-athletes "encompass" Big EventMore than 75 student athletes representing women's basketball, men's and women's skiing, women's soccer, men's and women's swimming and diving and men's tennis, as well as the Phoenix Pep Band and cheer team, volunteered at the Big Event for Little Kids fundraiser for Encompass Child Care April 3. Event founder Carol Busch says that student-athletes should be recognized for their efforts and said their presence makes the day extra-special for thousands of children who attended the event.
No excuse leave your kids with the PhoenixHaven't been out for a while? Maybe not since the last "Kids Night Out with the Phoenix?" Well, no excuses. Parents can once again get a break from their kids (and vice versa) by letting them hang out, play games and recreate with Phoenix athletes. "Kids Night Out with the Phoenix," hosted by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, is from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, April 30, at the Phoenix Sports Center. It's $15 for the first child, $5 for each additional sibling. Pre-registration is a must by calling 2145 or e-mail brauna@uwgb.edu. The fee is payable at the door but registration by April 28 is required.
Tickets available for bus trip to view 'Treasures of Ancient Egypt'Tickets are still available for a UW-Green Bay Outreach trip Saturday (April 17) to view the exhibition "The Quest for Immortality: Treasures of Ancient Egypt" at the Milwaukee Public Museum. Upcoming SAFE Ally trainingThe purpose of SAFE Ally training is to create a network of allies for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) students, and by doing so, to make the University community a safer and more supportive place. The SAFE Ally program is described as a symbol of this University's efforts to increase awareness and acceptance of the LGBT community. SAFE Ally training workshops are open to faculty and staff; the dates of the upcoming trainings are as follows.
