Vol. 35, No. 63 / April 15, 2004The LOG Online e-mail news digest is distributed each week to faculty and staff of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Links are included to more detailed stories at the Marketing and University Communication Web site and to an archive of past issues.
Selection of interim dean will be timed for July 1 startUW-Green Bay Chancellor Bruce Shepard announced yesterday (April 14) to Arts and Sciences colleagues that Dr. Carol Blackshire-Belay would complete her service as Dean of Arts and Sciences with the conclusion of her current appointment. Dean Blackshire-Belay had earlier shared with unit chairs her decision to pursue other opportunities she finds to be exciting. An Interim Dean is expected to assume responsibilities effective July 1, 2004. Provost Hammersmith has met with unit chairs and the University Committee to begin the process of selecting an interim dean.
Architects chosen for sports and events center concept workTwo architectural firms with extensive experience on sports, recreation and events centers have been selected to prepare design concepts for the potential renovation and expansion of the Phoenix Sports Center. The team of Venture Architects of Milwaukee and Moody-Nolan of Columbus, Ohio, has been selected by the DOA. Previous work by Venture includes the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, the Klotsche Center at UW-Milwaukee and the Kohl Center at UW-Madison. UW-Green Bay students have committed $15 million to the project through higher fees. The state of Wisconsin has committed an additional $7.5 million of state-supported bonding in the 2005-07 biennium as long as other funding pieces are in place. The remaining $10 million is being sought through private fundraising. For the full story, see http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/archive/2004apr.htm#architects.
