Solar heating panels at sports center part of DOA projectThose new solar heating panels visible at the Phoenix Sports Center are part of a state Department of Administration project aimed at expanding renewable energy features and reducing utility costs. UW-Green Bay is the first of three UW campuses targeted for the installation of solar heating systems for indoor swimming pools. There was no cost to the University for their installation. Solar Mining Co. of Green Bay produces the systems, which also will be installed at UW-Milwaukee and UW-Parkside. Solar Mining says swimming pools offer a good payback in the Wisconsin climate. * * * * *
Pakistani educators leave for home today after eight weeks in Green BayEducation professionals from Pakistan leave Green Bay today after an eight-week stay that provided them with a wide range of professional and cultural experiences. The educators came to UW-Green Bay for an intensive program aimed at improving various aspects of Pakistan's education system. It was an experience they will not soon forget. "We learned and we had fun," said Lubna Nazli, a senior administrative assistant and training coordinator. "We have very good memories and would like to come back." During their stay, they visited a two-room schoolhouse near Lena, met with Department of Public Instruction officials and sat in on numerous UW-Green Bay classes. But it wasn't all business. They attended a Green Bay Gamblers hockey game, "Oliver" at the Weidner Center and even a middle-school basketball tournament. What will Lubna remember most about Green Bay? "It was the weather," she said. "Otherwise, we felt so at home. People were very kind, very loving." The Pakistanis, who are from the country's largest province, Baluchistan, came here through a contract UW-Green Bay received from the Research Triangle Institute International, a non-profit corporation with expertise in education and training. * * * * *
