Newspaper: Chancellor needs Jerry Maguire 'Show me the money!' skillsThe 1990s catch phrase from a movie about a sports agent is used to headline a story in Sunday's Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The lead paragraph is flip, but the article about the fundraising criteria for hiring a new chancellor at UW-Milwaukee is serious. See http://www.jsonline.com/news/metro/jan04/197350.asp. * * * * *

Leap year, indeed! Phoenix men play tonight as Horizon leadersThe UW-Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team has jumped out to an outstanding start. Coach Tod Kowalczyk's team (9-4 overall, 3-0 in the Horizon League) has won seven straight. The first of three consecutive games at the Resch Center is tonight (Jan. 8) vs. Youngstown State. A victory would equal last year's 10-win total barely halfway through the season, and keep the program on track for its first winning record since 1999. For more, see http://www.uwgb.edu/athletics/mbb/. * * * * *

Chili showdown is Jan. 26Starve your appetite, stock up on Beano and make plans to eat your way through the 11th Annual Chili Cookoff starting at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, in the Nicolet Room of the University Union. It's a University tradition and a part of Frost Fest activities to open the second semester. Those who want to vote for a winning chili will be given ballot s as they enter the Nicolet Room. You can sample chili entries, choose a favorite and deposit your ballot in the "Giant Chili Vote Box," which will be emptied promptly at 12:30 p.m. for the presentation of the coveted chili championship trophy. * * * * *
Think you make good chili? Bring it on!Organizers of the big chili cookoff on Jan. 26 are issuing their annual challenge to would-be chili chefs to enter their best in the annual campuswide taste test on Jan. 26. As always, entrants must prepare and bring 1 to 2 gallons of their chili to the Nicolet Room that morning for reheating by University Dining Service staff. You or a representative must be present at your "chili station" to serve from 11:30-12:30 p.m. If your chili is served with accompaniments (spaghetti, onions, chopped hot peppers, etc.) you will need to provide those accompaniments. To register, call Mary Ann Rose (ext. 2380) in the Counseling and Health Center, SS 1400, ASAP. * * * * *
Costumes earn extra creditOne last thing: Each server is encouraged to come in costume matching the name of his or her chili. (For example, for a chili called "Fire and Ice," partnering chefs might don a devil's outfit and a shimmering, icy-silver gown that actually doesn't look half bad on a man.) For this and other outstanding examples, refresh your memory at last year's photo gallery, http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/photoarch/events/chili.htm. * * * * *
