Chancellor's Council of Trustees appointments are Beideman, Harden

Two community leaders have been named to the UW-Green Bay Chancellor's Council of Trustees, Chancellor Bruce Shepard announced this week. The new trustees are Paul S. Beideman, president and chief executive officer of Associated Banc-Corp, and Donald F. Harden, a consultant to Bellin Health. Harden recently retired after 10 years as president of the Bellin Foundation. The 14-member council advises the chancellor and University and serves as a liaison between campus and community.

Harden's ties to UW-Green Bay date to 1970

The appointment of Donald Harden to the Council of Trustees taps the expertise and experience of someone who served as a member of the UW-Green Bay faculty and administration from 1970 to 1994. As associate chancellor, he had responsibility for a wide range of areas including academic support, student services, athletics, university advancement and community relations. He was a charter member of the Phoenix Hall of Fame and, in 1998, was recognized when a new residence hall was named "Donald F. Harden Hall." In the meantime, plan to check it out — it's your facility — and email Bob at SkorczeB@uwgb.edu if you are interested in the Sept. 16 event.

Arboretum's newly designated Sager Tract honors NAS pioneer

The ponds, fields and wooded areas of the Cofrin Arboretum just south of Champeau Road now carry the name "The Paul Sager Tract." A sign was unveiled Wednesday, July 28, to honor the UW-Green Bay professor emeritus and former Arboretum director for his work in developing campus and curriculum, and fighting for the preservation of natural areas and water quality. Members of the Cofrin family joined past and present Natural and Applied Sciences faculty for the luncheon and dedication ceremony. For photos, see http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/page/photo.htm.

TABOR tabled until '05

The so-called Taxpayers Bill of Rights amendment to the state constitution appears dead, for now. A Republican state senator's call for a special session to pass the controversial proposal lacked the votes to go forward. Journal-Sentinel coverage is at http://www.jsonline.com/news/state/jul04/247205.asp.
