Prof. Michael Zorn recently learned he will receive $44,796 for a project seeking more efficient ways to break down organic wastes from dairy farms into methane that then can be used to generate energy including heat and electricity. Prof. Franklin M. Chen won $20,642 to investigate the feasibility and energy efficiency of using microwave energy to de-vulcanize used tires and regenerate potentially useful carbon black from them. The two UW-Green Bay research proposals were chosen for funding among stiff competition from other UW campuses. For full details, see http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/archive/2004june.htm#research.
