Price was right: Thesis involved toads, frogs, environmentSteve Price's award-winning thesis investigated the responses of the American toad and six species of frogs to land use and habitat type in coastal wetlands of Lakes Michigan and Huron. His major adviser was Prof. Robert Howe. Professors Michael Draney, a biologist, and Greg Davis, a mathematician, served as members of his committee. The work was conducted as part of a U.S. EPA study to identify, evaluate and recommend environmental indicators to measure the condition of the Great Lakes. Howe is a principal co-investigator in the $6-million study being conducted along with scientists from several other institutions. UW-Green Bay researchers are carrying out a portion of the studies. * * * * *

Houston, 27-3, is a Top 10 challengeWhat's the scouting report on UW-Green Bay's first-round NCAA opponent? They are good, very good. Houston breezed through the Conference USA regular season and tournament. They have two star players in guard Chandi Jones, whose 25.3 points per game ranks third in the nation, and 6-4 forward Sancho Lyttle, who averages 16.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. The No. 3 seed in the region, Houston ranks No. 9 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll. Should UW-Green Bay spring the huge upset, its opponent Monday would be formidable, as well: either 22-7 and 17th-ranked Colorado, or the host team, 25-6 UC-Santa Barbara. * * * * *
Is reciprocity 'out of whack?' Some in Minnesota say 'yes'Officials of the University of Minnesota are suggesting it is time to revisit the reciprocal tuition agreement with Wisconsin. On the right side of the border (if you're looking at a map, with north at the top), folks are taking a wait-and-see stance. The Journal-Sentinel has coverage at http://www.jsonline.com/news/state/mar04/214498.asp. 'Press-Gazette' story notes Aldrete honorIf you don't get too hung up on the opening paragraph (in actuality, it is a professor's job to create knowledge and write books), there's a nicely done feature about Greg Aldrete of Humanistic Studies and his prestigious NEH fellowship, archived at the Green Bay Press-Gazette site. It's at http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/news/archive/local_15107411.shtml. * * * * *
