Use D2L to participate in UW-Green Bay master planning

There's a new Web-based opportunity for faculty, staff, students and community members to participate in UW-Green Bay's campus master planning process. Using the Web-based learning system Desire to Learn (D2L), participants can view proposals, read comments of others and share their thoughts. The comprehensive development plan is being revised for the first time in 35 years. To learn more about logging in, see http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/archive/2004may.htm#plan.

Founding Chancellor Weidner's commencement address

Founding Chancellor Edward Weidner's remarks at the May 2004 Commencement ceremony can now be found online. Minus the humorous ad libs, the prepared text nonetheless revisits a fascinating period in higher education and UWGB history, and offers much for today and tomorrow. See http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/page/thenews.htm#address.

Another Commencement postscript: Thanks to the set-up crew

The way an estimated 4,000 people enjoyed the beautiful day and beautiful setting at outdoors Commencement, you would have had a hard time imagining the scramble to set up after the rainy week that preceded last Saturday. It took nearly the entire Operations/Custodial staff, working early and late, to get the platform and chairs in place. The Grounds crew, too, mowed at least twice to get the lawn just right. Congratulations, and thanks to all who pulled dedicated duty to set the stage for a postcard-perfect graduation ceremony.

New "Connecting learning to life" banners line main boulevard

You may have noticed the new banners featuring the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay logo and "Connecting learning to life" campuswide theme lining the main campus boulevard. The banners were put up in time for spring commencement. Additional banners will be placed across campus in areas of high traffic. Kudos go out to numerous student organizations — the UW-Green Bay Student Ambassadors, the Residence Hall and Apartment Association and the University Union Board — for kick-starting and supporting the banners project. Support also came from the Alumni Association, Outreach and Extension, University Union and the Phoenix Bookstore.

Packers-Phoenix ties grow stronger

A Packers/Phoenix steak fry raises at least $40,000 for the college basketball program. NFL players attend games during the season. Head Coach Mike Sherman agrees to meet recruits being given tours of Lambeau Field. A relationship dating to the days when Vince Lombardi advised founding Chancellor Edward Weidner on building an athletics program (don't play football, play soccer, the coach told the chancellor, interestingly enough) is growing. See the Press-Gazette story "Packers-UWGB relationship picks up" at http://www.packersnews.com/archives/news/pack_16097121.shtml.
