Kress gift enables UW-Green Bay to reach goal on student events centerChancellor Bruce Shepard is announcing success on the student sports and events center project. He confirms that a generous gift from the George F. Kress Foundation has been finalized, ensuring that UW-Green Bay will meet its Dec. 31 deadline for achieving the $7.5 million in private pledges required for matching state funds. The generosity of the Kress Foundation and family will be honored upon project completion when the remodeled and expanded Phoenix Sports Center is dedicated and renamed the Kress Events Center. Campaign continuesWhile this week's announcement signals UW-Green Bay has reached its minimum target for major gifts, the capital campaign continues in support of the new student sports and events center. The overall goal is to raise $10 million in private funds to supplement the $7.5 million state contribution and the $15 million that will be generated in coming years through student fees. Steve Swan, assistant chancellor for university advancement, says friends and alumni can expect to hear more about grass-roots opportunities for involvement in the coming weeks. The February issue of the Inside UW-Green Bay magazine will include details. * * * * *

In other news, men's tournament opens with Green Bay/Fargo clashThe UW-Green Bay men's basketball team will host the 12th annual Oneida Bingo & Casino Classic this Wednesday and Thursday (Dec. 29 and 30) at the Resch Center. Rounding out the field are North Dakota State, Hartford and Rider. Wednesday's semifinals are at 5 and 7:30 p.m., with UW-Green Bay and NDSU the fighting Bison from Fargo in the late game.
