UW System responds to staffing audit

Final "DebateWatch" at UW-Green Bay on Wednesday

Campus and community members will have another opportunity to watch and discuss a Bush-Kerry debate. UW-Green Bay will be the site of a viewing and discussion of the final presidential candidate debate at 8 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 13). Prof. Scott Furlong, Public and Environmental Affairs, organized the "DebateWatch" in the 1965 Room of the University Union. UW-Green Bay Alumnifest will have something for everyone

Building tours, golf, music and social events will highlight the second annual UW-Green Bay Alumnifest on Oct. 16. Mark Brunette, director of alumni relations, says the event is a great way for alumni and community members to connect with UW-Green Bay. Phuture Phoenix Day to draw more than 800 youngsters

About 830 fifth-graders will bring their enthusiasm to the UW-Green Bay campus Wednesday (Oct. 13) for the third Phuture Phoenix Day, an event that encourages youngsters to pursue a college education. Fifth-graders from the Green Bay, West De Pere and Shawano-Gresham school districts will visit classrooms, residence halls, the Weidner Center and other parts of campus throughout the day. Visitors from Italy at UW-Green Bay today through Monday

Faculty, staff, students and community members will have opportunities to meet representatives from the Del Bianco Foundation in Florence, Italy, during their visit to UW-Green Bay. The visitors arrive today. The foundation's goal is to contribute to the process of developing friendship among people of different countries. UW-Green Bay has a general agreement with the Del Bianco Foundation for the exploration of collaborative potential. The University's relationship with the foundation is the result of academic connections established by Prof. Sarah Meredith, Communication and the Arts, and Prof. Derek Jeffreys, Humanistic Studies. Jay Harris in the Office of International Education has more information about the visitors and their activities in Green Bay.

Photos from Transylvania featured in lecture, exhibit

Photographer Kathleen Laraia McLaughlin will give an illustrated public lecture Wednesday on "Tradition and Change in Transylvania" prior to an opening of an exhibit of her photographs in the Lawton Gallery. Classified Staff Advisory Council meets Tuesday

UW-Green Bay Cultural Fair is Wednesday

Entertainment, food and exhibits will represent many different cultures at the annual UW-Green Bay Cultural Fair on Wednesday (Oct. 13). Weidner Center has performances for all tastes

Political filmmaker Michael Moore's appearance at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts may be drawing the most attention. But rock 'n' roll nostalgia, political humor and a legendary trio of folk music performers also will be at the Weidner center this month. Space Grant Consortium honors astronaut's memory with fellowship

The Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium, based at UW-Green Bay, has established a graduate fellowship to honor the memory of Dr. Laurel Salton Clark, the Wisconsin astronaut who died aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia in February 2003. Wood carvings from Mexico featured during Hispanic Heritage Month

During Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15), the American Intercultural Center display case in the Cofrin Library plaza is featuring wood carvings from Oaxaca, Mexico. Sometimes known as alebrijes (fanciful creatures), the carvings were acquired in Oaxaca and two outlying towns during the summer of 2003. The exhibit is sponsored by the AIC and the Lawton Gallery.

Reminder on visiting scholar lecture

Prof. Fanghua Hao, associate dean in the School of the Environment, Beijing Normal University, Beijing, China, will be on campus next week as a visiting scholar. Campus and community are invited to attend her lecture Wednesday (Oct. 13) at 1 p.m. in MAC Hall 224. The lecture topic is "Non-point Pollution Simulation and Control in the Yellow River." Her visit is sponsored by the Visiting Scholars Program, a newly established cooperative program involving UW-Green Bay and St. Norbert College.

Tickets available: UW-Green Bay hosts NCAA volleyball regional

For the first time in its history, UW-Green Bay will host an NCAA Championship event. The University, in partnership with PMI, will host one of four NCAA Division I volleyball regionals. Game times are 5 and 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, and 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the 10, 000-seat Resch Center. This is the tournament's "Round of 16," with the winner of the Green Bay regional joining three other finalists for the Final Four in Long Beach the next weekend. Prices are $25 for adults and $8 for students. Children under 2 are free. Single-session prices are $15 for adults and $5 for students. All ticket sales are handled through the Resch Center, (920) 494-3401.
