Gurung begins appointment today as associate deanRegan A.R. Gurung begins his duties this week as associate dean of liberal arts and sciences. Gurung, associate professor of Human Development and Psychology, succeeds Prof. Joyce Salisbury, who is retiring. In announcing the appointment, Interim Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences Fergus Hughes said the combination of Gurung's teaching excellence, scholarly record and knowledge of and commitment to UW-Green Bay made him an ideal candidate. Mary Ann Rose has message for Classified Staff"I would like to take this opportunity to remind ALL classified staff about the professional development opportunities available to you. The Classified Staff Advisory Council (CSAC) is continuing to co-sponsor programs with the academic staff this year, however there is still money available for those interested in individual programs. Liz Hessler is the Chair of the Professional Development Allocations Committee. An application for professional development funds is available on the CSAC Web site at http://www.uwgb.edu/classified. Also, be watching for an exciting opportunity for all classified staff in the near future. Reminder: Convocation is this WednesdayRemember to turn out this Wednesday morning (Aug. 24) at the University Union for the 2005 edition of Convocation. Continental breakfast is at 8:15 a.m., with the program starting at 9 a.m. Remarks by Chancellor Bruce Shepard will be followed by presentation of the Founders Awards and introduction of new faculty and staff. Prof. Kaye's appearance on "After Words" is available on WebFor those who missed UW-Green Bay Prof. Harvey Kaye's recent appearance on the C-SPAN2 program "After Words," the program now is available for viewing on the Web at http://www.booktv.org. Kaye, professor of Social Change and Development, discusses his new book, Thomas Paine and the Promise of America. Kaye is interviewed on "After Words" by Michael Novak, director of social and political studies at the American Enterprise Institute.
Phoenix Field to be re-dedicated 'Aldo Santaga Stadium'Watch this space in coming days for more details on the renaming of the Phoenix soccer field for popular Hall of Fame coach Aldo Santaga. The dedication ceremony will take place Saturday, Sept. 3, in conjunction with the soccer program's annual alumni weekend. Santaga was a Phoenix head coach for 15 seasons, through the early 1990s, and also did much to promote the growth of his sport throughout Northeast Wisconsin.

First safety/emergency response training session is Aug. 25New employee safety orientation and emergency response training will be offered on Thursday, August 25 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. All new employees are required to attend this training once.
