Janet, Jerry Gallagher gain publicity for 'magnificent' gift

Look for local newspaper coverage tomorrow for what is being described as one of the 10 largest gifts ever to UW-Green Bay. Longtime Green Bay residents Jerry and Janet Gallagher made the pledge late last year, but its magnitude was not revealed until recent publication of their story in the Inside UW-Green Bay magazine. Work of Jerry Dell is focus at Neville

"Photography by Jerry Dell" is the title of a new art exhibit opening at the Neville Public Museum with a public reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 25. Dell, a member of the UW-Green Bay faculty from 1973 until his death last April, created and guided the University's innovative interdisciplinary program in photography. The Neville exhibit is a career retrospective highlighting several dozen of his most striking and widely exhibited images. The show runs through Sept. 5.

P.S.: A new MIS man in CIT

On Monday June 13, Matthew Albers joined the MIS team in the Computing and Information Technology department as an IS Systems Development Services Senior. Matthew has worked the past two years as a Peoplesoft student administration consultant. Prior to that he spent four years at UW-Oshkosh as a senior programmer/analyst working on their Peoplesoft student administration system. He has a bachelor's degree in computer science from UW-Oshkosh.

Disney's On The Record

The Weidner Center is inviting audiences to enjoy On The Record, a new musical with more than 60 of the most beloved Disney songs ever written. Performances are July 6 through 10, at 7:30 p.m. each evening with 2 p.m. matinees on Thurday, Saturday and Sunday. Weidner launches new ticketing system

Announced along with the Weidner Center's new season (see http://www.uwgb.edu/weidner/Events_0506.htm) was an operational advance: "We're stepping up our customer service with the launch of a new ticketing system to increase efficiency and make it even easier for customers to receive the personal attention they deserve," says Joi Brown, general manager. The Center will keep its ticketing function in-house — with people who knows the seating, shows, history and the individual needs of the customer — but add the AudienceView system to enhance ease and efficiency still further, while better managing customer information.

Food increases in importance

With the steady increase in pre-show dining at its expanded Bistro, the Weidner Center has also stepped up pre-show options with additional special events that feature themed menus. "We think that patrons will be extremely pleased with the 'Performance Plus' information noted on each event summary, " says Joi Brown, who notes that the season brochure includes an easy-to-use food order form that can be submitted with subscription orders. Options include family-friendly picnic lunches for the Sunday Show and Supper series, or gourmet selections like roasted peppered tenderloin on a ciabatta roll or a jumbo shrimp platter for two.

Governor proclaims State Employee Recognition Day

Earlier this week Gov. Jim Doyle proclaimed Wednesday, June 15, State Employee Recognition Day. "State employees deserve our utmost respect and thanks," he said, adding, "I am deeply grateful to Wisconsin's state employees for the sacrifices they've made on behalf the State of Wisconsin and their fellow citizens." Partnerships in Milwaukee, Superior win state awards

Brief

Mona Christensen, youth opportunities coordinator for Outreach, contributed to an innovative community-service project as part of her Leadership Green Bay Class of 2005 experience. She and members of her team developed the COTS — Churches Offering Temporary Shelter — project in partnership with the Brown County Homeless Coalition. The purpose of COTS is to provide temporary, emergency overnight shelter for singles and families who do not meet the criteria for admittance to current facilities or who are on waiting lists. Seven to ten churches will provide shelter on a rotating basis. The COTS project has an anticipated launch date of fall 2005, with the county coalition carrying forward the plan developed by the team.
