Holy cow! Softball team is headed for NCAAsThey're probably too young to remember the trademark call of baseball broadcasting legend Harry Caray, but the Phoenix women's softball team had a "Holy Cow!" Saturday with a series of thrilling wins and game-winning HRs. Picked for last in a pre-season poll, Coach Jean Rivett's UW-Green Bay team grabbed the Horizon League tournament title and a trip to the NCAAs. Softball joins list of NCAA entriesThe first NCAA Division I tournament berth for women's softball, another milestone in what has been a successful year overall for Phoenix athletics, puts the team among elite company in school history. Only five UW-Green Bay sports programs have qualified for D-1 tourney play at the team level. Chronologically, they are:

Phoenix opens NCAA tourney in Madison on FridayGoodman Diamond in Madison will be the site of opening-round play this Friday (May 20) for the Phoenix women's softball team (26-16). Merging UW-Superior and UM-Duluth?Some Wisconsin lawmakers have had a series of ideas recently about "merging" UW System functions and campuses, and this latest one has a twist: a collaboration with the University of Minnesota.
