Campus mourns two professors; obituary published for Mannino
The University campus mourns the passing of two popular faculty members in the past week. Joseph Mannino, an associate professor emeritus of Human Biology, and Anthony Gault, a professor of Social Change and Development, passed away recently. Mannino died peacefully at his home in De Pere last Thursday night following a lengthy battle following a stroke and subsequent cancer diagnosis. His obituary in the Green Bay Press Gazette documents his passion for students and the community. Read it at http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051211/GPG010301/512110600/1212
News Coverage of Weidner Center announcement
Watch local news and this space later this week for more on today's announcement on the future of programming at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts. (The Green Bay Press-Gazette's initial synopsis was online Monday afternoon at http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051212/GPG0101/51212048).
Campus employees trading comfort to save dollars
Already posted on-campus but perhaps of interest to off-campus readers: The first high-efficiency "fully modulating" boilers in the UW System have been installed on the UW-Green Bay campus, and now campus employees are asked to take personal responsibility to further lower heating and electrical costs. That means shutting off lights and computers unless necessary, and giving up space heaters, while campus thermostats are adjusted to heat settings of 68 degrees. Campus administration will also consider the consolidation of evening and weekend program activities in as few buildings as possible, all in the name of cost savings.
Wikgren replaces Jan Swiggum
Paul Wikgren has joined the campus community, replacing Janice Swiggum as the IS business automation specialist in the Business and Finance area. Wikgren comes to UW-Green Bay from ShopKo Stores, Inc. where he was an information systems analyst and project lead. He is responsible for the development, implementation, enhancement and maintenance of distinctive administrative systems within the Business and Finance area. Introduce yourself to Wikgren at CL 805E or call him at ext. 5068.
Plan now for UW Race and Ethnicity conference
The UW System Institute on Race and Ethnicity is organizing a statewide conference that will feature research initiatives, curricular developments, pedagogical practices, reading seminars, and innovative campus activities concerning racial/ ethnic studies on UW System campuses. The conference, "Enriching Racial/Ethnic Studies: Health, Education, and Cultural Knowledge," will be held Thursday and Friday, April 6-7, at UW-Milwaukee. Questions should be directed to Tom Tonnesen, tonnesen@uwm.edu.
Reminder: Fill out Union survey
The University Union Board and Dining Advisory Committee would like your input on the future of dining on campus as part of its expansion and remodeling project. To link to the survey, go to http://www.uwgb.edu/union/diningServices/diningSurvey.asp.
