Nursing program gets the max!
Maximum accreditation, that is, from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. "We are extremely proud of our accomplishment in receiving the maximum 10-year accreditation period," said Prof. Derryl Block, chairperson. "It is a tribute to our faculty, administrators, students, and clinical agencies, and we thank everyone who participated in the review process." The Professional Program in Nursing currently has 178 students, all RNs, who take general education, nursing support courses, and upper level nursing courses on campus or via the Internet.
Web masters: Humanistic Studies site wins state 'Webbie Award'
The Humanistic Studies academic program Web site, "Humanistic Studies at UW-Green Bay," has won a 2005 Webbies Award for most accessible design from the Media and Technology Section of the Wisconsin Library Association. Campus Webmaster Paula Ganyard accepted the award on Wednesday (Oct. 26) at the WLA conference in La Crosse. The Media and Technology Section initiated Webbies Awards in 2004 to recognize excellence in Wisconsin Web site design. Sites can be nominated in four categories: most accessible, coolest design, best reference, and best kids.
Campus honors Dorschels with naming of 'nat'
At a special dedication ceremony Monday (Oct. 24), UW-Green Bay named its swimming and diving pool the Peter F. Dorschel Natatorium. Green Bay natives Peter F. and Jane W. Dorschel were honored for lifelong civic involvement and their generous support of the renovation and expansion of the Phoenix Sports Center. The Dorschels (who will celebrate their 66th wedding anniversary next month), welcomed campus and community friends to a University-organized reception in the PSC poolside room. Peter Dorschel is a local swimming legend dating to his UW days in the 1930s and a long-distance swim he made at age 13, from the old Wells Coal Dock (now Voyageur Park) in De Pere to the Main Street Bridge in Green Bay. Meet the Dorschels and learn more about the honor at http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/archive/2005oct.htm#pool.
New scholarship honors first Vice Chancellor Maier
The family of Robert H. Maier has established a scholarship in his name at UW-Green Bay. Maier, who was the institution's first vice chancellor — and the second employee — died on Monday (Oct. 24) in Green Bay. Maier joined UW-Green Bay in 1967 and served in administrative positions and on the science and environmental change and public and environmental administration faculties before leaving in 1979 to become vice chancellor at East Carolina University. Chancellor Emeritus Edward W. Weidner has said that Maier's influence at UW-Green Bay reflected "...the steadiest and firmest of voices in the early years." The family has indicated that "need" be among criteria for awarding the Robert H. Maier scholarships. Persons wishing to contribute toward the scholarship fund may send gifts to University Advancement in Cofrin Library 820.
Newspaper carries memories of Maier, and service arrangements
Robert Maier will be remembered at services set for 11 a.m. this Saturday (Oct. 29) at Fort Howard Chapel.
