Mark your calendar for Social Justice Symposium
Internationally known scholars will discuss the "many faces" of indigenous rights and land claims at the third International Social Justice Symposium Nov. 14-15. The symposium will address the question of "Whose land is it?" and aim to enhance understanding of the dispossession of indigenous peoples from their ancestral lands. The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and St. Norbert College are again partnering to bring the International Social Justice Symposium to a Northeastern Wisconsin audience. They are collaborating with the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin on this year's symposium. Read more about the symposium and register for it online at http://www.uwgb.edu/outreach/events/socialjustice.

Symposium events to be held at Oneida, on campus
"Whose land is it?" will include discussions on land claims and indigenous struggles in the United States, Latin America and South Africa. Sessions will be held Nov. 14 at the Norbert Hill Center, Oneida. On Nov. 15, all events will be held in the Phoenix Rooms in UW-Green Bay's University Union. All sessions are free and open to the public. Pre-registration is encouraged.

Symposium series is a tribute to Gary Weidner
The International Social Justice Symposium series was organized in 2003 as a tribute to the late Gary Weidner, who died earlier that year at the age of 54. Weidner, a prominent Green Bay attorney, helped represent a defendant before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague in 2002. Weidner was the oldest son of founding UW-Green Bay Chancellor Edward Weidner and was a leading advocate for the University.

Press-Gazette examines UW-Green Bay growth, diversity
In stories in its Sunday (Oct. 2) edition, the Green Bay Press-Gazette took an in-depth look at UW-Green Bay's efforts to become larger and more diverse. Reporter Kelly McBride interviewed Chancellor Bruce Shepard, students, alumni, and community leaders for the stories about the University's present and future. In a front-page story, the Chancellor explained his desire for UW-Green Bay's enrollment to grow to 7,500 students. The story is online at http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/news/archive/local_22822641.shtml.

UW-Green Bay seeks more diverse student body, faculty
The Press-Gazette reported that many students want to see the percentage of UW-Green Bay's students of color increase from the current 6 percent of overall enrollment. Diversifying the campus is a vital goal of the University, Chancellor Shepard told the newspaper. The diversity article is online at http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/news/archive/local_22823188.shtml.
