Community leaders promote 'Northeastern Wisconsin's Growth Agenda'
The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents heard a strong community endorsement Friday for a plan to grow UW-Green Bay to meet the economic and social needs of Northeastern Wisconsin. For more, click http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/archive/2006apr.htm#growth2.

Regents rave about Green Bay presentation
Look for expanded coverage in Monday's LOG, but it was clear from Regent comments that a presentation by business, civic and educational leaders scored big with members of the UW System Board of Regents. "I want to tell you I think your message is remarkable," Board President David Walsh told the panel. Commented Regent Thomas Loftus, "I'm pledging my support for this Growth Agenda, not only my support but my help in any way I can to sell this to the Legislature." Regent Judy Crain of Green Bay expressed "great pride" in the presentation, and echoed the panelists' view that support for UW-Green Bay and a regional growth agenda is deeply and widely shared in the community. Added Walsh, "I wish I could package you all, take you down to Madison and sit you down with the Legislature."

Snapshots from Friday's Regents meeting
Members of "Team Green Bay" before their presentation... alumni Diane Ford and William Gollnick speak out for UWGB... a "Success is in the Cards" poster demonstrates the reach of the University's many successful alumni. Press-Gazette coverage of Regents
An early Web version of the Green Bay Press-Gazette's coverage of the Regents meeting was available late Friday afternoon at http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060407/GPG0101/60407029.

Community panel included several alumni
Community leaders speaking on behalf of the Growth Agenda were Susan Finco, president of Leonard & Finco Public Relations, Inc.; Larry Ferguson, president and chief executive officer of Schreiber Foods; Paul Linzmeyer, president of Bay Towel Linen and Uniform Rental; Jeffrey Rafn, president of Northeast Wisconsin Technical College; and Diane Ford, vice president and controller for Wisconsin Public Service Resource Corp; Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce President Paul Jadin; and William Gollnick, chief of staff for the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin. Linzmeyer, Ford and Gollnick are all UW-Green Bay graduates.

Quote of the Day
Regent Charles Pruitt, at Friday's full Board meeting, in describing a typically lengthy subcommittee meeting the previous afternoon, drew a big laugh with "I believe Brett Favre retired and unretired in the time it took us (to get through that agenda)."
