Vol.

Ed Ziegler, our counterpart at Rowan University's PR office and an online colleague, insists the following tale from one of his student workers is true: When a friend turned 18 his adoptive mother (he knew he had been adopted) told him she had some information about his birth and asked if he wanted to read it. His response — "How many pages is it?" — even if apocryphal is a reminder that many in the younger generation (any generation, arguably) prefer even their big news short and sweet. Here goes:
• A new campus calendar
• Mark yours for Employee Benefits/Wellness Fair
• Health insurance premiums
• Fair coincides with October open-enrollment
• Dental plans
• ERA dates, too
• Student activities magazine has UW-Green Bay flavor
• Senior high music camp draws out-of-staters
• Still more camp news
• Still another story on Madison enrollment
• Kudos on 'flood' cleanup
• Briefs: P. Ganyard, Nagy
Campus calendar makes debut
The University Campus Calendar has a new look and URL as of July 26. It can now be viewed at http://calendar.uwgb.edu. The old calendar Web site is now inactive, so please redirect to this new URL. For all the campus web schedulers who schedule special rooms — you should now log into this new Web site. "Mark this site as one of your favorites, if you want to find out what is happening campuswide," reports Poppy Grant, event scheduling coordinator. "If you have any questions, please contact University Reservations — 465-2200, # 28 and someone will assist you."
Mark your calendars for Employee Benefits/Wellness Fair Oct. 17
Plans for the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Employee Benefits & Wellness Fair are being finalized. Details:
Date: October 17, 2006
Time: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Niagara Rooms A, B & C
The fair gives employees the opportunity to gain more information about issues affecting their benefits, visit with a variety of vendors, have their blood pressure taken, find out about their cholesterol levels and more.
New premiums for health insurance
The Human Resources Office, which encourages all employees to visit the aforementioned fair, shares the following on 2007 premiums for health insurance:
Tier 1 plans $27.00 single and $68.00 family
Tier 2 plans $60.00 single and $150.00 family
Tier 3 plans $143.00 single and $358.00 family
Fair coincides with October open-enrollment period
The Dual Choice Health Insurance Enrollment period for state employees is scheduled for October 9 through 27, to identify their coverage to be effective Jan. 1, 2007. Employees enrolled in the health plan with coverage in place this Oct. 1 or earlier are eligible to participate.
Dental plans, too
The same dates, this Oct. 9 through 27, are expected to apply to open enrollment for both the UW Non-Represented and OSER Dental plans during 2007.
• UW Non-represented plan covers all classified and unclassified employees who are NOT represented by a bargaining agreement.
• OSER plan covers all employees who are represented by a bargaining agreement including Teaching Assistants and Project Assistants
As long as we're at it, here are ERA dates, as well
The Employee Reimbursement Account (ERA) Open Enrollment period is tentatively scheduled to begin Oct. 9 for coverage effective Jan. 1, 2007. Eligible are all classified and unclassified employees except fellows, scholars, LTEs, student assistants and student hourly appointees. When information on other plans, etc., becomes available, HR will pass us an FYI... ASAP.
Trade magazine features UW-Green Bay authors, mentions on student life
UW Green Bay scores a hat trick. The Back to School edition of Campus Activities Programming Magazine features three items with significant UW Green Bay ties. Alumna Trudi Arnold '97 has a feature article on performance contract riders and Grant Winslow of the Student Life Office has a piece on marketplace etiquette, his third published appearance in the magazine. Also in the same issue, Good Times Programming is acknowledged as having an "Outstanding Programming Board Website" in an article written by Kelly Nesbit of Mississippi State University. (The GTP site is down for its periodic cleaning and flossing, but check back next week). For a look at the magazine published by published by the National Association of Campus Activities, click http://www.naca.org/NACA/PublicationsResources/ProgrammingMagazine/Magazine+Main+Page.htm.
Senior high music camp draws out-of-staters
Senior High Band, Orchestra and Choral Camp is in session this week. Most of the 230 dedicated young musicians are from Wisconsin, but summer program director Mona Christensen reports increasing numbers from Michigan and northern Illinois, and even one camper from New York. The free public concerts start Saturday (July 29) with orchestra at 9 a.m. and on the half-hour thereafter with the bands at 9:30 and the choirs at 11:30. Guest conductors come from all over Wisconsin and as far away as Kentucky. The new UW-Green Bay director of choral activities, Randall Meder, as well as new faculty clarinetist Eric Hansen, were initiated to the camp scene last week when 350 middle-schoolers had their turn.
Still more camp news
The Universal Cheerleading Association is also on campus this week with approximately 100 attendees from the area. Ann Rodrian of Admissions is the campus facilitator. Coach Tom Poitras's soccer camp arrives on the scene today (Thursday) and another well-enrolled girls basketball camp begins Friday.
Still another story on UW-Madison enrollment
The media keeps hitting the UW-Madison enrollment crunch, selectivity data, and the relative mix of in-staters vs. out-of-staters. Check one TV station's coverage at http://nbc15.madison.com/news/headlines/3423401.html.
Kudos on 'flood' cleanup
Have you ever seen darker afternoon skies than the closing-time downpour this past Monday? The 4:30 p.m. deluge resulted in some minor hallway flooding in the under-construction wing of campus, especially in the Lab Sciences area. Rapid response by the University Housekeeping crew prevented any serious damage.
Briefs
