Doyle visits Tuesday to talk state budget, financial aid
All members of the campus community are invited to attend a news conference planned for 12:30 p.m. Tuesday (July 17) at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts. Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle is visiting the Green Bay area to share his reaction to the latest developments on the 2007-09 state budget, and to the Assembly version's proposed reductions in student financial aid.

Friends, family search for missing student Mahalia Xiong
Friends and family are enlisting the help of campus and community in finding UW-Green Bay student Mahalia Xiong. She was reported missing after she didn't return from a night out with friends at Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley, Thursday evening and early Friday (July 13). Her friends took the highway, but Xiong took a different route — perhaps Oneida Street — toward her East Side home. No one has heard from Xiong since. Xiong is active with the University's Southeast Asian Student Union, and known to many on campus. She was last seen driving a four-door, 1996 Mercury Sable with Wisconsin license plate TFD-715. Funeral today for Hansen grandchild
Visitation is this morning (Monday, July 16) for Elliana Zaidel, the 2-year-old granddaughter of state Sen. David Hansen. The girl died Friday after an accident at the Hansen's West Side home. Sen. Hansen is a 1971 graduate of UW-Green Bay and a strong supporter of the institution; he and his wife, Jane, are familiar faces at University events and activities. Visitation at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1420 Division St., will be followed by the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. A memorial fund has been established. Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family.
